Slough pulled off a great double over their old foes, Enfield, when they went to North London on Thursday and beat the Berger Isthmian champions by the only goal of the game.

The first game at Slough in November was won by Town 2-1. Enfield played like a side feeling the strain of so many fixtures while the Rebels were in top form knowing that any success in this game would keep them with an outside chance of league honours.

The early play saw some smart moves by Slough with several set pieces giving the home team a lot of trouble but it was not until three minutes from half-time that the all-important goal was scored.

Ian Cooke set Paul Lee moving with a well-controlled pass and the striker made ground before firing in a shot which goalkeeper Moore saved but could not hold and Cooke following up crashed the ball into the net.

Enfield had not been idle but they just could not break down the iron Town defence. Enfield threw everything into attack at the outset of the second period but with no better results and frustration began to creep into their play with the result Elley was booked for a foul on Mick Kiely.

As the minutes ticked away Slough began to push forward themselves and they nearly had a second goal when Friend put Russell was tipped over the bar by away but Dave's final shot Moore for a corner which produced no tangible result. It was a great win for Slough, the third home league defeat for Enfield this year.
