It ended all square between Slough Town and North Leigh at a freezing cold Holloways Park.

Slough showed the greater attacking intent early on, with Romeo firing wide from a difficult angle, and Platt firing two yards wide from the edge of the box after cutting in from the left.

But once again, Slough were caught out at a free-kick situation as Karl Dodds headed home unmarked in the middle of the box.

North Leigh began to grow in confidence after the goal, and after a defensive mix-up, Ricky Allaway was forced into a desperate clearance away from goal.

Slough’s persistence paid off with an equaliser on 25 minutes as Platt again cut in from the left and strode into the area, firing low past Lee Farrow from 12 yards.

Minutes later, Slough should have gone ahead as Jagdeep Makh escaped his marker and cut in from the right, firing across goal but agonisingly just too far ahead of Danny Jordan’s boot.

Laurence Brown showed great vision to play in Byron Bubb through the middle, and the Grenadian raced clear only to see his shot parried up into the air and over the bar by Farrow. Danny Jordan became the latest to be denied when his shot was blocked, with a chance for Matthew Platt snuffed out on the rebound.

Just before half time both sides went close again. Bubb saw a shot saved by the legs of Farrow, and Romeo’s attempt on the rebound was headed over his own bar by Stuart Huxley. At the other end, North Leigh hit the post with a deflected effort.

The second half settled down into an even contest with the two goalkeepers rarely troubled. Slough were only able to force Farrow into action once more in the second half, despite the dismissal of visiting midfielder Ben Reardon.

Matthew Platt’s low ball into the box was controlled by Romeo and in a flash, fired towards goal, but Farrow produced a brilliant diving save to turn the ball away.

The major flashpoint occurred in the 70th minute, as Ricky Allaway and Reardon went in for a diving tackle. Reardon was adjudged to have gone in two-footed on the Slough captain and was dismissed, leaving Allaway to limp off to be replaced by debutant Daniel Hicks.

Slough were unable to make their man advantage count, with a deflected Bubb free-kick being the closest the Rebels came in the final twenty minutes, as a depleted North Leigh were happy to settle for a point.
