Poor Didcot Town just can't avoid losing to Slough in the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup.

The Hellenic Leaguers have had the misfortune to meet and lose to Slough in each of the past four competitions, during which they have scored only once while conceding 15 goals.

And Tuesday night's slaughter at Wexham Park was easily the most painful defeat of all for a woefully disjointed side who, not surprisingly, haven't won a league game all season.

So inactive was Slough keeper Frank Parsons that he was forced to run in circles around his penalty area to stave off frostbite.

This was by no means a perfect Slough performance, for as manager Terry Reardon later complained they gave the ball away too often and were sometimes caught short of numbers at the back, a weakness that a better team would have punished.

But those loyal fans who braved a cruelly cold evening were well rewarded, especially in the second half, with a non-stop attacking display and some good goals.

After their bright opening, disaster struck Didcot in the 25th minute when Moloney's hopeful lob into their penalty area was headed beautifully past Didcot keeper Peter Gosling by one of his own defenders, Norman Smith.

Two minutes later Roy Butler was unchallenged as he rose at the near post to head in Dave Russell's corner, and Russell himself then set about hoisting his own goal total for the season into double figures.

He went close with two efforts from outside the box, and in the 57th minute followed up when Roy Butler's progress was checked to stroke the ball past Gosling from 12 yards.

Russell was in full flight now and when Les Barrett, after a fine run down the left, presented him with the ideal cross, Russell was in no mood to spurn the opportunity.

Keith White was twice involved in the move which led to Slough's fifth in the 73rd minute, with Russell this time unable to prise an opening and laying the ball off for Steve Adams to crash in his first goal for the Rebels, and Didcot's misery was completed in the 85th minute when Keith White rode two clumsy tackles and slipped the ball wide of the uncertain Gosling.

Apart from the skilful meanderings of Bob Humphreys, Didcot really were as bad as the scoreline suggests.
