Two first-half goals from Dylan Evans took Slough Town to their first Berger Isthmian League, Premier Division victory at Wexham Park since November 14 on Saturday.

For the first 45 minutes the Rebels produced some impressive football to virtually destroy a mediocre Harlow Town side. However, after the interval Slough's game started to deteriorate and once again their inability to turn the number of chances they create into goals was highlighted as they failed to increase their two goal lead.

Slough started brightly and after 15 minutes it took a superb one handed save from Paul Kitson to keep out a thunderous shot from Dave Russell.

Two mmutes later the Rebel's went ahead when Rowan Dodds headed on a Barry Friend cross from the left, and the unmarked Evans had all the time in the world to slip the ball past Kitson from about 10 yards out.

Harlow posed a solid and well disciplined Slough defence few problems, although with 24 minutes gone Ray Pask fired over when in a good position after a cross on the right from Bobby Harding had for once caught the Rebels' defence out.

Slough then increased their lead in the 30th minute when after Kitson had done well to keep out a tremendous free kick from Keith White, from the edge of the penalty area, Evans was on hand to knock the loose ball home from close range.

It was generally expected after the interval that Slough would build on their two goal lead, but despite creating numerous promising moves their finishing once again let them down in front of goal.

A fine move involving Dodds, Friend and Les Barrett on the left ended with White shooting weakly wide when in a good position, and then after 70 minutes Evans missed a good chance to complete his hat-trick after a cross from substitute Steve Norman had thrown the Harlow defence into confusion.

While Slough pushed hard for a third goal, little was seen of the Harlow attack and the result of the match was never really in doubt. However, generally Slough lacked imagination in finding ways of breaking down the visitors' defence and the match became a very mundane affair.

In the closing minutes Russell picked up a through ball from Barrett only to see his goalbound effort bounce off the legs of the advancing Kitson and foil the Rebels' leading goalscorer of the goal he so desperately wants at the moment.
