First-half goals from Dan Burnell and Dom Marsala, his first for the club, were enough to seal victory over visiting Barton Rovers.

After a superb start from Slough, the struggling visitors grew into the game and went close as Spencer shot over as striker Parkinson caused problems down the right and had driven in a low cross.

Former Hitchin goalkeeper Richard Wilmot was perhaps lucky to get away with leaving a super Paul Coyne cross soon after, which put off Sonner who was attacking the far post – the striker putting the ball wide.

Slough began to look a little frustrated at not creating chances, but with 29 minutes played, a goal came out of very little. Dom Marsala, in the starting eleven in place of Stuart Swift, made a yard of space with a clever stepover and curled a beautiful effort into the top corner, past the large frame of Wilmot, to register his first Rebels goal.

Four minutes before the interval, Slough doubled their lead – the goal again not really having been on the cards. Adam Martin did well to tackle and win the ball back in the box, and then turned in an instant and dug out a cross which Dan Burnell reacted to superbly, nodding the ball across Wilmot and into the far corner.

Despite this blow, the visitors never looked out of the contest, but Slough continued to look the more likely to score again, Wilmot blocking well from Sonner after Coyne’s lay-off, before a rocket from Adam Martin was cleared off the line.

In an otherwise uninspiring second half, Barton set up an uncomfortable final twelve minutes as Spencer blasted a free kick through the Slough wall and past Warrington.

After surviving a scare when a Barton effort was cleared close to the goal line, Sonner wasted a glorious chance to make the game safe in the closing stages, seeing his shot from a very tight angle saved by Wilmot when Sinclair and Burnell were waiting at the far post – but the Rebels played out the remaining time to seal another three points and stay just two points off the top.
