Slough wanted these league points to continue their contact with the league leaders but it was not until late in the game that they wiped out a Boreham Wood goal and finally got on top in a somewhat drab game. Chatterton and Mead scored the Slough goals in the 69th and 74th minutes.

The absence of Anthony, on duty for Wales against Scotland, certainly weakened the attacking force and deprived Chatterton of what little support he usually gets. D'Arcy recovering from his recent broken nose was named as substitute and came on early in the second half in place of Stuart Jamieson.

For a change Boreham Wood managed to take the lead against Slough with a well-taken first goal. This is the first time in many seasons that they have been ahead against Slough and they maintained their lead until midway through the second half when two goals in five minutes from Chatterton and Mead settled the issue.

Slough should have been in front in the second minute when the Boreham Wood defence were settling down. A poor back pass was intercepted by the overlapping Crosby who rounded the keeper but found the angle too tight and hit the ball against the upright. He regained the ball but saw his second shot cleared off the goal line.

After this, play was very scrappy and it was the visitors who began to put on the pressure. In the 8th minute a magnificent shot from 35 yards by Green brought an equally fine save from Wolstenholme.

Four minutes later a Pardey corner sailed across the Slough goalmouth and Smith outjumped the Slough defenders to make it 0-1.

The play at times began to get a little rough and Green was booked in the 20th minute for a foul on Eaton. One minute later and Slough had gained their first corner and this was to mark a turn in the game. Slough took command and gradually forced the visitors back. O'Sullivan was guilty of missing an open goal in the 23rd, Jamieson headed over from a corner in the 29th and Day miskicked in front of the Boreham Wood goalmouth in the 39th.

After the interval Slough increased the pressure. A shot from Jamieson was cleared off the line in the 50th. Despite their obvious superiority Slough just could not get the vital goal and in the 61st D'Arcy came on for Jamieson and played up front.

In the 69th the scores were levelled. Day touched a free kick for Chatterton to hammer home off the boot of Pardey.. Five minutes later a corner on the left from Day was prodded home by Keith Mead and the visitors lost a lot of heart, 2-1 down after leading for an hour was too much for them and their football certainly reflected their feelings.

Apart from a good effort from Smith in the 88th which was well saved by Wolstenholme, the visitors had had enough, and the only real item of note in the final minutes was a booking for Alf D'Arcy for ungentlemanly conduct.
