There was an Easter hangover for the Rebels this past Wednesday night as Slough crashed out of the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup to Bracknell at Stag Meadow.

Eddie Denton chose to rest Alan Foster, Steve Daly and Ian Hodges in preparation for the final league push, however an otherwise strong team couldn’t discard a hard working Bracknell as The Rebels went down by one goal to nil.

Slough, coming of the back of an incredible victory over landlords Windsor, were pre-match favourites to reach the final but Bracknell started stronger and could have taken the lead early on. Williams managed to get behind Nick Gyoury but Michael Murphy prevented any shot on goal by clearing the potential danger.

Bracknell had another chance soon after when Slough skipper Wilkinson inadvertently passed to a Robins striker, but Alan Judge stood tall and made an impressive save to keep the home side level. The Rebels were looking anything but the team that demolished Windsor two days earlier and Bracknell were getting stronger.

Against the run of play Slough broke away and nearly managed to snatch an undeserved lead. Carbon made an inch-perfect pass to Tony Boot, who managed to lose the defenders however his shot went flying into the side netting.

It was only a matter of time before Bracknell took the lead and on 38 minutes they did exactly that. Slough’s defence was unable to clear the threat and Williams shot past a stranded Judge to take a deserved half time advantage.

The Rebels' performance improved in the second half and Slough had chances to equalise, going close from a Glen Harris corner but Andrews was able to make a comfortable save.

Bracknell were still carving out chances and if it wasn’t for the combination of poor finishing and fine goalkeeping from Judge, Slough could have found themselves in real trouble.

Slough’s only real chance of the second half came when Glen Harris set up Matt Miller in the area, unfortunately Miller shot across the face of the goal and the ball went agonisingly wide.

As the game went into injury time Bracknell took shot after shot but thanks to Alan Judge the score remained 0-1 until the final whistle.

The Rebels can now fully concentrate on the league and that vital top six finish. Slough host Whyteleafe this Saturday at Stag Meadow where a win is truly the only option.
